Emotion: intense, silent agony — eyes unnaturally wide, face puckered and contorted, mouth forced shut by delicate lace, every fold of fabric straining to contain the pain within.
Close-up of a couture handbag reimagined as an exquisitely draped textile face, contorted in suffocating suffering beneath an ornate facade.
The “skin” is fragile, gleaming silk brocade in blush ivory with faint baroque florals — pulled and gathered into deep creases, puckers, and tense furrows across the brow and cheeks. Subtle padded ridges push up the surface like bones about to burst, creating trapped pressure under the silk.
The eyes are brutally wide open, formed from cracked translucent resin cabochons. Around the eyes, the silk is violently ruched and pinned with tiny gold staples, warping the pattern into jagged pleats that radiate tension.
Fine gold embroidery veins crawl out like fragile nerves ready to snap.
The mouth is sealed shut by a band of antique lace ribbon, pulled so tight the silk around it folds and puckers. The lace is stitched down with overlapping pale pink silk thread, digging into the “skin”.
Cheks and temples are uneven — lumps and dips under the fabric hint at internal fractures.
Hair detail is limp strings of fine silk fringe and twisted pearl threads, tangled like helpless ornaments.
